In our time the protection of the environment and the natural resources is a burning actual theme. Reason for this is also the scarcity of raw materials. Building materials that can be recycled; a closed production chain; minimal use of raw materials and the use of re-usable energy sources are the basic conditions for ecological responsible architecture.
It is our opinion that development of lasting real estate is very important for a number of various reasons. The use of raw materials is not endless and it is thus essential to look for a more intelligent and innovative manner for the re-use of raw materials, now and in the future.
In the constructed surroundings about 50% of the raw materials are used. Enough reason to especially in this sector to look for solutions. E.g. to avoid those elements that are superfluous, but especially to make a more intelligent use of the available raw materials and in advance to think about the reuse of these materials in the composition of (real estate) products now and in the future.
The addition of flexibility and adaptive ability prevents in addition the destruction or large scale renovation in the future, by which environmental demands and -charge can be reduced considerably. Also as regards to energy consumption the development of sustainable buildings is of course essential.
Notwithstanding that it is clear that the “hardware” can only to a certain extent reduce the energy demand. It is and remains the user who creates the demand for energy direct and indirect. Thus the user can -as well positively as negatively - influence the effectivity of sustainable real estate. We are absolutely convinced that the sustainable “hardware” and the right use of the proprietor/user as from the moment he meets this, will positively influence the behaviour of these parties.
So sustainable real estate needs to be constructed in order to be able to follow-up (and not limit) peoples behaviour and to influence this in the desired direction.
